Ex-Rye Resident William Colfax Davidson, Longtime Lawyer, Dies

William Colfax Davidson, 82, a longtime lawyer who called Port Chester and Rye home, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, at the Brookdale Health Center in Rhode Island.

Born in Port Chester in 1936, he was the son of the late John and Helen Davidson. He moved to Rye in 1977, later moving to the Brookhaven Condominium Complex in Woonsocket, Rhode Island and the New Pond Village in Walpole, Maass.

Davidson was a graduate of Brunswick High School, Class of 1954. He later graduated from Yale, Class of 1958. He continued his education at Columbia Law School where he received his Juris Doctorate in 1961 and in 1962 he received his Master's Degree in Law from NYU. He passed the Bar Exam in 1962, and practiced law for 36 years. He was the owner of Davidson Law Firm in Port Chester.

Bill was a board game aficionado, who at one time taught Bridge. He would also play Catan, Chess, Payday, Yahtzee, Monopoly and most games that would allow time with his family. He also enjoyed tennis, gardening, history, astronomy, and had a classical music library. 

He leaves his son, John W. Davidson and his wife Donna of Woonsocket, his two grandchildren, Patrick Davison and Morgan Davidson; his nephew Edward Davison of Spencerville, Indiana. He was the brother of the late John Davidson and Barbara Davidson.

Relatives and friends have been invited to Bill’s Life Celebration to be held Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. in the Emmanuel Episcopal Church at 12 Nate Whipple Highway, Cumberland, RI. Burial will be private at the Greenwood Union Cemetery, Rye. Life Celebration Arrangements are under the direction of the J. J. Duffy Funeral Home, Cumberland, RI.
